Ashleigh Mondolo

Ashleigh Mondolo is a Clinical Nurse with experience in areas of breast surgery, breast reconstruction and the oncology setting, and has worked in roles such as Clinical Nurse, Clinical Facilitator (gynaecology, plastics and urology), and Research Nurse (clinical policy).

Throughout her 10 years of nursing experience, Ashleigh has worked in many areas within Mater and abroad. In 2010, Ashleigh spent nine months in East Africa working for AUS-AID in a remote Tanzanian maternity clinic. During this time she worked alongside local doctors and midwives and gained experience in management of high risk births, and provided healthcare access for refugee women. Following on from her placement in Tanzania, Ashleigh went to on Thailand where she volunteered in a child health clinic, in a remote town in the Thai-Cambodian border.

With a passion in women’s health and health equality, in 2014, Ashleigh completed a Master of Public Health at Griffith University. During this time, her research focused on spatial inequities and the social determinates that influence chronic diseases in rural and remote Queenslanders. Ashleigh has a special interest in breast cancer awareness, research and evidence-based nursing practice.

In 2017, Ashleigh was awarded runner up of the Mater Research i-Research Project, whereby Ashleigh presented a short thesis on Gynaecological Cancer Supportive Care at The Translational Research Institute Brisbane. Following completion of a Graduate Certificate in Breast Cancer Nursing, Ash was welcomed to the Mater Private Breast Cancer Centre team in the role of Breast Care Nurse. When she isn’t caring for Mater patients, Ashleigh enjoys spending time with her family, children and trail running.
